Program Introduction
The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Program is a large-scale international competition organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Since its launch in 2002, this annual event has been held 11 times and attracted more than 1,000 college students from over 80 countries to participate in the semi-finals and finals in China. In addition, there are more than 300,000 students all over the world involved in the preliminary rounds. This competition is now an important platform for international college students to learn the Chinese language and understand more about China. It also serves to help young people in the world better communicate with one another. The contents of the competition include Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China, Chinese cultural talents and comprehensive learning abilities. Students who win the preliminary rounds held in their countries qualify to come to China for the semi-finals and finals. They will also get scholarships to further their studies in China as rewards.
Competition Procedure
1. Participants
College students with foreign nationalities, aged between 18 and 30 and overseas-born, whose first language is not Chinese.
2. Participation Process
(1) Preliminary Rounds
The educational or cultural offices of Chinese Embassies (Consulates) or Confucius Institutes organize the overseas preliminary competitions, select and recommend contestants to attend the semi-finals held in China. Each contest region can also recommend one outstanding contestant to come to China to view the competition.
(2) Semi-finals and Final Round
Each July, the semi-final round selects the players for the final round through testing their Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China, Chinese cultural talents, etc. The final round results in the special award and the first, second and third place winners as well as the single award winners through elimination competitions. 3. Registration for the Competition
Individuals from Greece, who wish to participate in the competition, please apply through the Business Confucius Institute at the Athens University of Economics and Business. HKSAR Government Scholarships for International Students in Hong Kong, 2017-2018
The Government of Hong Kong is offering scholarships for local and non-local students for the academic year 2017-2018. These scholarships are available for pursuing full-time degree programmes at participating universities in Hong-Kong.
With a view to attracting outstanding local students to advance their studies at home and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government established in 2008 the $1 billion HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (the Fund) to recognize outstanding local and non-local students.
The aim of education for Hong Kong is to promote students’ whole-person development and life-long learning capabilities. Education helps to unleash human potentials and enhance people qualities and the competitiveness of the HKSAR.
Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
Course Level: The scholarships are available for pursuing full-time publicly-funded programmes at degree or above levels at the following participating institutions (City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Vocational Training Council).
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are provided to study all the subjects offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: The scholarship is $40,000 per year for local students and $80,000 per year for non-local students. In 2011, the Government injected $250 million into the Fund to extend the benefit to students of full-time publicly-funded sub-degree programs offered by five institutions ( the programmes City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKAPA and the Vocational Training Council) from 2011/12 academic year onwards. The scholarship award for these sub-degree students is between $20,000 to $30,000 per year for both local and non-local students.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following guidelines
Talent Development Scholarship (TDS): To be eligible for the TDS, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate and postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Receive an award in either inter-institution, local, regional or national event within recent three years (from January 1, 2012 – present) in one of the following areas with documentary proof: Sports and games; Music and performing arts; Culture, arts and design; or Innovation, science, and technology.
Reaching Out Award (ROA): To be eligible to apply for the ROA, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Participate in an outreaching activity that is conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2017-18 with proof of admission/enrolment.
Endeavour Merit Award: EMA shall be made on the basis of merits to students with SEN who:
• Are currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Are able to provide documentary proof of SEN
Nationality: Local and international students can apply for these scholarships.

Entrance Requirement: Applicant must be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.
English Language Requirement: Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
How to Apply: Participating institutions will nominate students for the selection by the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund Steering Committee. Interested students shall apply for undergraduate study with participating higher education institutions.

Full Scholarship for Non-Chinese Students at Xiamen University in China, 2017
The Xiamen University is delighted to announce its Fujian Govt. scholarship to pursue undergraduate, master and doctoral programmes. Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Xiamen University, colloquially known as Xia Da, located in Xiamen, Fujian province, is the first university in China founded by overseas Chinese. Established by Tan Kah Kee in 1921, the university was originally known as Amoy University.
In order to enhance its internationalisation, XMU has launched a lot of English-medium programmes for international students. These programmes are taught in English and aim to produce high-level international specialists with a solid professional foundation plus a good understanding of the Chinese society and culture.
Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to learn any of the courses offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation fee and cost of course materials for one academic year.

Confucius Institute Scholarships for Non-Chinese Students at Nankai University in China, 2017
Applications are invited for Confucius Institute Scholarship Program for the students and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese or conduct research regarding Chinese language and culture. These scholarships are only open to applicants who have a non-Chinese citizenship.
The Confucius Institute Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.
Confucius Institute is a key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Nankai University, located in Tianjin on the border of the sea of Bohai, is also the alma mater of our beloved late Premier Zhou Enlai.

MTCSOL and One-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL students are subject to annual academic performance review. Only those who achieve outstanding marks in academics and Chinese language proficiency are entitled to a full scholarship for the following year; those who achieve average academic records are entitled to partial scholarships (Without living allowance); the others will not be entitled to scholarship any longer. The One-Academic-Year Study and One-Semester Study are required to attend Chinese language proficiency test before graduation. Test fees are reimbursed by Nankai University.
During the study, for any students who is absent from China of personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding legal holidays), the allowance will be suspended during the absence. The allowance will be terminated in case of schooling suspension or dropping out for personal reasons.

The scholarship is only open to applicants who have a non-Chinese citizenship, who are between 16 and 35 years old, and who are in good health. (Applicants who are currently working in a Chinese language teaching position shall not exceed the age of 45).The eligibilities are as follows:
• Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) Students (2 Academic Years)
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; 2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 5), and a minimum score of 50 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level);
3. Providing the employment agreement or certification upon finishing the study from designated working institutions is preferred.
• Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL Students (3 Academic Years)
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; 2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and a minimum score of 60 in HSKK Test (Beginner Level);
3. An employment agreement from a designated Confucius Institute or a prospective working institution.
• Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Students (11 Months)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, overseas Chinese language teacher, Chinese language major student or excellent performer in HSK test. International students who are now studying in China are not eligible for the scholarship.
2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3) and 60 in HSKK test (Beginner Level), or a minimum score of 180 in BCT (A) and a minimum score of 180 BCT (Speaking).
• Scholarship for One-Semester Study Students (5 Months)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, overseas Chinese language teacher, Chinese language major student or excellent performer in HSK test;
2. No prior experience of studying in China; 3. A minimum score of 120 in HSK Test (Level 2) and a minimum score of 40 in HSKK (Beginner Level) or a minimum score of 100 in BCT (A) and a minimum score of 120 in BCT (Speaking).
• Scholarship for Four-Week Study Students (4 Weeks)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, excellent performers in HSK/BCT test, or outstanding club members of Confucius Institute Magazine; 2. No prior experience of studying in China; 3. A HSK or BCT score report.
Note: Chinese Bridge (Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students) Winners who have been awarded the 2017 Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate can apply for admission according to the scholarship specified in the certificate.

How to Apply: For the application, please log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarships website to register, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarships Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents as listed below:
• A scanned copy of the passport photo page (Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China);
• Score reports of the HSK, HSKK or BCT, BCT (Speaking). Winners of the finals of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions may submit the award certificate and the “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate”;
• Certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation), and an official transcript;

Chinese Proficiency Test
The new HSK exam is a standardized Chinese Language Proficiency test. The test emphasizes communication skills, learning skills and working skills of students whose Chinese is an additional language. The new HSK is divided into two parts: written and oral. The written and oral examinations are independent of each other. The written tests include HSK Level 1, HSK Level 2, HSK Level 3, HSK Level 4, HSK Level 5 and HSK Level 6. The oral exams include HSKK (basic), HSKK (intermediate) and HSKK (advanced). All oral exams are recorded.
Register for the HSK test online
Step 1: Create an account
Log onto the website www.chinesetest.cn and create an account. The website is available in 7 languages, including English.
Step 2: Sign up
Provide necessary personal information including e-mail address, nationality, mother tongue, and date of birth.
Step 3: Test registration
After creating your account, you can login and choose “register now” on the welcoming page. This will lead you to the six levels of HSK tests. Selecting test level, continent, country/region, test format (only the paper-based format is available at BCI Athens), test center and date, completing your personal information, uploading a photo and confirming registration information.
Remember: this photo is going to appear on your HSK certificate once you pass it so choose a nice one!
Step 4: Pay the test fees
You must pay the test fee at least 27 days before the test date. Test fee must be paid on time to Business Confucius Institute office (29, Evelpidon St, 11362 Athens, 5th floor, 10:00-14:00), otherwise the registration will not be confirmed.

Step 5: Test registration confirmation
After completing registration and paying test fee, test takers who have provided valid e-mail address can check their inbox for the confirmation message 10 days before the test date. If test taker has not received a confirmation message, he/she should consult the test center.
Step 6: Print Test Admission Ticket
Log on (http://www.chinesetest.cn) by using your username and password to print the Admission Ticket. Test takers go to take the test on the test date with their Test Admission Ticket and ID Certificate. If you have any problems with printing the Admission Ticket, contact the test center in advance.

HSK Test Result
Check Online: You can check your test result online five weeks after the test date using the number on your admission card (http://www.chinesetest.cn).
Your official result sheet will be mailed to the BCI test center within 60 days after your exam date.
Note: You should pick up your result sheet at your earliest convenience after receiving the notice email or make an appointment with the test center.

The Business Confucius Institute in Athens (BCI Athens) is developed in collaboration between the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) of Greece and the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) of China, aiming at promoting friendly relationship between Greek and Chinese people, under the guidance of Confucius Institute Headquarter (Hanban).
AUEB provides about 80 m2 of appropriately formed and equipped space close to the main building of the University for BCI to carry out its activities. This space includes classes and offices of the administrative personnel and the Chinese instructors.
In addition, AUEB provides the necessary working conditions for the Chinese instructors, the administrative personnel, the equipment and infrastructure for the organizational and operational support of the Institute, as well as access to all University facilities, namely Library, Computer Center, University’s Internet Network, students’ restaurant. The University also offers support to administrative procedures, granting the necessary official information and certifications.
The Confucius Institute Headquarters (HANBAN) authorizes the use of the title “Confucius Institute” and provides logos and institute emblems. It also provides authorized books, audio-visual and multimedia materials and other supplementary teaching materials, and authorizes the use of online courses.
The Confucius Institutes, as non-profit educational organizations, develop a number of activities to satisfy the demands of people from different countries and regions in the world who wish to learn the Chinese language, enhance their understanding of the Chinese language and culture, strengthen educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, and deepen friendly relations with other nations.
In this context, Business Confucius Institute in Athens will support the further development of research, academic and educational cooperation between Greece and China, the promotion of the Chinese language and culture in Greece, as well as the enhancement of friendly relations between the two countries.
The services offered by the Business Confucius Institute in Athens will include: teaching of Chinese language, providing Chinese language teaching resources, training of Chinese language instructors, holding the HSK examination (Chinese Proficiency Test), as well as tests for the Certification of the Chinese Language Teachers, providing information and consultative services concerning China’s education, culture, and business, and conducting language, cultural, and academic exchange activities between China and Greece.

Greece and China represent two historic nations and two great civilizations that have been the cradle of West and East cultures, respectively.
The Business Confucius Institute in Athens aims at bringing together these two great civilizations and these two historic nations.
