The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Program is a large-scale international competition organized by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban). Since its launch in 2002, this annual event has been held 11 times and attracted more than 1,000 college students from over 80 countries to participate in the semi-finals and finals in China. In addition, there are more than 300,000 students all over the world involved in the preliminary rounds. This competition is now an important platform for international college students to learn the Chinese language and understand more about China. It also serves to help young people in the world better communicate with one another. The contents of the competition include Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China, Chinese cultural talents and comprehensive learning abilities. Students who win the preliminary rounds held in their countries qualify to come to China for the semi-finals and finals. They will also get scholarships to further their studies in China as rewards.
1. Participants
College students with foreign nationalities, aged between 18 and 30 and overseas-born, whose first language is not Chinese.
2. Participation Process
(1) Preliminary Rounds
The educational or cultural offices of Chinese Embassies (Consulates) or Confucius Institutes organize the overseas preliminary competitions, select and recommend contestants to attend the semi-finals held in China. Each contest region can also recommend one outstanding contestant to come to China to view the competition.
(2) Semi-finals and Final Round
Each July, the semi-final round selects the players for the final round through testing their Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China, Chinese cultural talents, etc. The final round results in the special award and the first, second and third place winners as well as the single award winners through elimination competitions. The Government of Hong Kong is offering scholarships for local and non-local students for the academic year 2017-2018. These scholarships are available for pursuing full-time degree programmes at participating universities in Hong-Kong.
With a view to attracting outstanding local students to advance their studies at home and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government established in 2008 the $1 billion HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (the Fund) to recognize outstanding local and non-local students.
The aim of education for Hong Kong is to promote students’ whole-person development and life-long learning capabilities. Education helps to unleash human potentials and enhance people qualities and the competitiveness of the HKSAR.
Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
Course Level: The scholarships are available for pursuing full-time publicly-funded programmes at degree or above levels at the following participating institutions (City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Vocational Training Council).
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are provided to study all the subjects offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: The scholarship is $40,000 per year for local students and $80,000 per year for non-local students. In 2011, the Government injected $250 million into the Fund to extend the benefit to students of full-time publicly-funded sub-degree programs offered by five institutions ( the programmes City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKAPA and the Vocational Training Council) from 2011/12 academic year onwards. The scholarship award for these sub-degree students is between $20,000 to $30,000 per year for both local and non-local students.

Talent Development Scholarship (TDS): To be eligible for the TDS, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate and postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Receive an award in either inter-institution, local, regional or national event within recent three years (from January 1, 2012 – present) in one of the following areas with documentary proof: Sports and games; Music and performing arts; Culture, arts and design; or Innovation, science, and technology.
Reaching Out Award (ROA): To be eligible to apply for the ROA, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Participate in an outreaching activity that is conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2017-18 with proof of admission/enrolment.
Endeavour Merit Award: EMA shall be made on the basis of merits to students with SEN who:
• Are currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Are able to provide documentary proof of SEN

The Xiamen University is delighted to announce its Fujian Govt. scholarship to pursue undergraduate, master and doctoral programmes. Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Xiamen University, colloquially known as Xia Da, located in Xiamen, Fujian province, is the first university in China founded by overseas Chinese. Established by Tan Kah Kee in 1921, the university was originally known as Amoy University.
In order to enhance its internationalisation, XMU has launched a lot of English-medium programmes for international students. These programmes are taught in English and aim to produce high-level international specialists with a solid professional foundation plus a good understanding of the Chinese society and culture.

Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; 2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and a minimum score of 60 in HSKK Test (Beginner Level);
3. An employment agreement from a designated Confucius Institute or a prospective working institution.
• Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Students (11 Months)

The new HSK exam is a standardized Chinese Language Proficiency test. The test emphasizes communication skills, learning skills and working skills of students whose Chinese is an additional language. The new HSK is divided into two parts: written and oral. The written and oral examinations are independent of each other. The written tests include HSK Level 1, HSK Level 2, HSK Level 3, HSK Level 4, HSK Level 5 and HSK Level 6. The oral exams include HSKK (basic), HSKK (intermediate) and HSKK (advanced). All oral exams are recorded.
Step 1: Create an account
Log onto the website www.chinesetest.cn and create an account. The website is available in 7 languages, including English.
Step 2: Sign up
Provide necessary personal information including e-mail address, nationality, mother tongue, and date of birth.
Step 3: Test registration
After creating your account, you can login and choose “register now” on the welcoming page. This will lead you to the six levels of HSK tests. Selecting test level, continent, country/region, test format (only the paper-based format is available at BCI Athens), test center and date, completing your personal information, uploading a photo and confirming registration information.
Remember: this photo is going to appear on your HSK certificate once you pass it so choose a nice one!
Step 4: Pay the test fees
You must pay the test fee at least 27 days before the test date. Test fee must be paid on time to Business Confucius Institute office (29, Evelpidon St, 11362 Athens, 5th floor, 10:00-14:00), otherwise the registration will not be confirmed.

Log on (http://www.chinesetest.cn) by using your username and password to print the Admission Ticket. Test takers go to take the test on the test date with their Test Admission Ticket and ID Certificate. If you have any problems with printing the Admission Ticket, contact the test center in advance.
