The Government of Hong Kong is offering scholarships for local and non-local students for the academic year 2017-2018. These scholarships are available for pursuing full-time degree programmes at participating universities in Hong-Kong.
With a view to attracting outstanding local students to advance their studies at home and meritorious non-local students to pursue higher education opportunities in Hong Kong, the HKSAR Government established in 2008 the $1 billion HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund (the Fund) to recognize outstanding local and non-local students.
The aim of education for Hong Kong is to promote students’ whole-person development and life-long learning capabilities. Education helps to unleash human potentials and enhance people qualities and the competitiveness of the HKSAR.
Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
Course Level: The scholarships are available for pursuing full-time publicly-funded programmes at degree or above levels at the following participating institutions (City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Vocational Training Council).
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are provided to study all the subjects offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: The scholarship is $40,000 per year for local students and $80,000 per year for non-local students. In 2011, the Government injected $250 million into the Fund to extend the benefit to students of full-time publicly-funded sub-degree programs offered by five institutions ( the programmes City University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HKAPA and the Vocational Training Council) from 2011/12 academic year onwards. The scholarship award for these sub-degree students is between $20,000 to $30,000 per year for both local and non-local students.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following guidelines
Talent Development Scholarship (TDS): To be eligible for the TDS, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate and postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Receive an award in either inter-institution, local, regional or national event within recent three years (from January 1, 2012 – present) in one of the following areas with documentary proof: Sports and games; Music and performing arts; Culture, arts and design; or Innovation, science, and technology.
Reaching Out Award (ROA): To be eligible to apply for the ROA, students should:
• Be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Participate in an outreaching activity that is conducted outside Hong Kong in the academic year 2017-18 with proof of admission/enrolment.
Endeavour Merit Award: EMA shall be made on the basis of merits to students with SEN who:
• Are currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate program;
• Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent, or
• Have a recommendation from respective supervisor(s) (applicable for postgraduate research students); and
• Are able to provide documentary proof of SEN
Nationality: Local and international students can apply for these scholarships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicant must be currently pursuing full-time publicly-funded/UGC-funded undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.
English Language Requirement: Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
How to Apply: Participating institutions will nominate students for the selection by the HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund Steering Committee. Interested students shall apply for undergraduate study with participating higher education institutions.

The Xiamen University is delighted to announce its Fujian Govt. scholarship to pursue undergraduate, master and doctoral programmes. Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
Xiamen University, colloquially known as Xia Da, located in Xiamen, Fujian province, is the first university in China founded by overseas Chinese. Established by Tan Kah Kee in 1921, the university was originally known as Amoy University.
In order to enhance its internationalisation, XMU has launched a lot of English-medium programmes for international students. These programmes are taught in English and aim to produce high-level international specialists with a solid professional foundation plus a good understanding of the Chinese society and culture.
Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes.
Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to learn any of the courses offered by the university.
Scholarship Award: The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation fee and cost of course materials for one academic year.

• Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
Nationality: Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Confucius Institute is a key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Nankai University, located in Tianjin on the border of the sea of Bohai, is also the alma mater of our beloved late Premier Zhou Enlai.

MTCSOL and One-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL students are subject to annual academic performance review. Only those who achieve outstanding marks in academics and Chinese language proficiency are entitled to a full scholarship for the following year; those who achieve average academic records are entitled to partial scholarships (Without living allowance); the others will not be entitled to scholarship any longer. The One-Academic-Year Study and One-Semester Study are required to attend Chinese language proficiency test before graduation. Test fees are reimbursed by Nankai University.
During the study, for any students who is absent from China of personal reasons for more than 15 days (excluding legal holidays), the allowance will be suspended during the absence. The allowance will be terminated in case of schooling suspension or dropping out for personal reasons.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
The scholarship is only open to applicants who have a non-Chinese citizenship, who are between 16 and 35 years old, and who are in good health. (Applicants who are currently working in a Chinese language teaching position shall not exceed the age of 45).The eligibilities are as follows:
• Scholarship for Master’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) Students (2 Academic Years)
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; 2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 5), and a minimum score of 50 in HSKK Test (Intermediate Level);
3. Providing the employment agreement or certification upon finishing the study from designated working institutions is preferred.
• Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL Students (3 Academic Years)
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent; 2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3), and a minimum score of 60 in HSKK Test (Beginner Level);
3. An employment agreement from a designated Confucius Institute or a prospective working institution.
• Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Students (11 Months)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, overseas Chinese language teacher, Chinese language major student or excellent performer in HSK test. International students who are now studying in China are not eligible for the scholarship.
2. A minimum score of 180 in HSK Test (Level 3) and 60 in HSKK test (Beginner Level), or a minimum score of 180 in BCT (A) and a minimum score of 180 BCT (Speaking).
• Scholarship for One-Semester Study Students (5 Months)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, overseas Chinese language teacher, Chinese language major student or excellent performer in HSK test;
2. No prior experience of studying in China; 3. A minimum score of 120 in HSK Test (Level 2) and a minimum score of 40 in HSKK (Beginner Level) or a minimum score of 100 in BCT (A) and a minimum score of 120 in BCT (Speaking).
• Scholarship for Four-Week Study Students (4 Weeks)
To be a Confucius Institute (Classroom) student, excellent performers in HSK/BCT test, or outstanding club members of Confucius Institute Magazine; 2. No prior experience of studying in China; 3. A HSK or BCT score report.
Note: Chinese Bridge (Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students) Winners who have been awarded the 2017 Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate can apply for admission according to the scholarship specified in the certificate.
Nationality: Non-Chinese students are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
How to Apply: For the application, please log on to the Confucius Institute Scholarships website to register, complete the Confucius Institute Scholarships Application Form online, and upload the scanned copies of relevant supporting documents as listed below:
• A scanned copy of the passport photo page (Applicants under the age of 18 shall submit relevant documents of entrusted legal guardians in China);
• Score reports of the HSK, HSKK or BCT, BCT (Speaking). Winners of the finals of the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions may submit the award certificate and the “Confucius Institute Scholarship Certificate”;
• Certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation), and an official transcript;
• Recommendation letter signed by the head of the recommending institutions (Chinese language teachers shall submit an employment verification letter and a reference letter provided by the institutes they work for);
• Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL Students and Scholarship for “1-Academic-Year Study + MTCSOL” students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors. Those who can provide an employment agreement or related documents with the designated teaching institution are preferred.
